Kim Skinner, PhD, is an associate professor of Literacy and Curriculum Studies in the Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education at Louisiana State University. At LSU, she is the literacy education coordinator and co-director of the LSU Learning Lab for Dyslexia and Reading Research. Before teaching at the university level, she was the elementary curriculum director for a public school district, a campus reading specialist, and an elementary classroom teacher. Her current scholarship focuses on the social construction of opportunities for learning as part of reading, writing, and language processes; ethnography as a means for understanding literacy events in community and educational settings; and the impact of students’ language and literacy development on their disciplinary understandings.
