A research team led by LSU associate Professor Dr. Kunlun Ding has uncovered new insights into the structure of copper-zeolite catalysts. Using a nontraditional research approach, they identified monomeric copper species, small singular copper atoms, that may play an important role in catalyst performance, helping researchers better understand how copper-zeolite catalysts function. This discovery could ultimately improve the performance in chemical processes regarding emissions reduction and methane conversion.

Gabreyela Gonzalez wears many hats around campus: senior chemical engineering student, Director of Campus Life and Sustainability, mass spectrometry facility worker, and now, she has added a crown to that list.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI) recently awarded $117 million to 56 projects that will strengthen the competitiveness of key American industries through energy and cost-saving innovations.
